Биография

Младежки години

Майлс Дейвис е роден в заможно семейство на афроамериканци – баща му Майлс Дюи Дейвис Втори е едър земевладелец и преуспяващ зъболекар. Детството си обаче прекарва не в родния си град, а в Ийст Сейнт Луис (част от големия Сейнт Луис) – един от центровете на афроамериканската култура, формално сочен, заедно с Ню Орлиънс, за една от „родините“ на блуса и джаза, откъдето получава първите си преки „уроци“ в тези музикални стилове. Свири на тромпет в училищния оркестър, оттогава това остава неговият основен инструмент, въпреки че прекрасно владее пиано, саксофон, китара и др. Зрелият период

Късните творби на Майлс Дейвис са еклектични. Някои от тях строго се придържат към електронния формат, наложен от фюжън-а – например „Review“ (1987 г.) Творчество

Творчеството на Майлс Девис се характеризира с непрекъснат преход към различни стилове в джаза. Майлс Дейвис е един от малцината ярки музиканти, които еднакво добре се справят и като солисти, и като част от един по-голям музикален ансамбъл. Особено в бибоп-периода Дейвис работи със знаменитости като Джон Колтрейн, Дизи Гилеспи и Чарли Паркър, по-късно с Лари Янг, Чък Кърия, Бени Мопин, Джон Лий Хукър, Били Кобъм, Дейв Холанд и други.
